Hey Guys, I have a question. I got a little impulsive and won a samantha on ebay at the last minute (literally). She's a fixer upper, but is she really sam? Also should I send her to the doll hospital? Any thoughts/suggestions are very much appreciated.

She sure looks to be Sam, with the brown eyes. You sure got her for a steal!
Sending her to the hospital is totally your call. She'll come back with a totally different head, though. And Mattel Sam looks VERY different.
If I were you, I'd wash her, and get her a new, Samantha-like wig. And some clothes . I imagine she'd look very pretty!
But, sending her to the hospital will get her sent back looking pretty, too. And I'm not sure how you could deal with the missing eyelashes without sending her in.
Have fun with which ever decision you make. She's bound to look lovely either way. I think you'll have more fun giving her a makeover yourself,

What I personally would do would be to buy another somewhat low cost PM (but not white body) Sam on eBay and steal it's head for the other one. That way you have a good condition mostly original white body as opposed to a mattel doll with a white body.
Then take the head with the terrible haircut and put it on the newer body and send THAT into the hospital. If you don't want 2 Sams, you could put it back on eBay to recoup your money, give it as a gift or some such.

FYI- The Hospital will replace her head with a mattel head. They do not have any PM heads anymore. I asked this twice to them as I wanted to send in my PM Samantha for a new eye.

I love Greymist's idea. That's what I would do.
And yes...she's Samantha.

Yes! She is a very early Sam.
Mine looks just like her.
You can rewig her yourself for very little money (and it is very easy!) and keep her close to original, or follow GreyMyst's advice and keep her even closer to original.
I got an excellent white body with an awfully abused head, and then got a very early Sam with a great head and an "exploded" body. Untied strings, got my Sam all dandy, and send the other to the hospital for serious fixing. She came back as an almost new doll... and went straight to ebay!
Good luck with your new girl!

Thanks Henna. I'm so excited! I told my dd about her and the "makeover" that we'll have to do. She'll be the only AG my dd sees before Christmas.

Congratulations! I know that Jennifermarym, got a wig just like a 1986 Samantha and sewed pieces of hair in.Maybe you can send her to the doll hospital and ask them if they can just replace her eyes and not her whole head. They do this with dolls that have silver eye.So why can't they do it with dolls that don't have silver eye.
